It all began with two HBCU grads, a pole, a van, and a deck of affirmation cards…

In 2020, artist and strategist Teylor Parks graduated from the illustrious Florida A&M University (FAMU) with a world-class degree, a full-time offer into a leading marketing program and crippling anxiety, depression, and unresolved trauma. Dedicated to improving her wellbeing and manifesting her dream reality, she created her own deck of positive affirmation and journal prompt cards. These card decks became the basis of Breathe in Color.

In 2022, Teylor joined forces with fellow FAMU graduate, herbalist, and engineer Kosi Sumpter where they began taking their collection of wellness products on the road, vending at local festivals and conferences throughout the southeast. By the end of the year, the two secured a warehouse space in Tallahassee, Florida — now known as The Breathe in Color Studio — and began incorporating pole fitness workshops and creative events into their repertoire, with a 1967 Volkswagen Westfalia set as the space’s centerpiece and main attraction.

Today, Breathe in Color is a national brand, community, and wellness space with one goal in mind: to make self-help tools and flow experiences accessible to all.

“People often ask, ‘What’s next for Breathe in Color?’ I want to share the power of affirmations and flow movement with as many people as possible. I see us hosting wellness activations at SXSW, Essence Fest, Rolling Loud, Coachella and other spaces. I see us doing more work in local school systems and places of business, teaching people how to regulate stress and emotions. We could paint murals with affirmations and diverse artwork on buildings across the nation.

The possibilities are boundless and so is our imagination.”
